I am working with Imaging Mass Spectrometry (IMS) as a promising technique to identify complex bio-molecules as well as lipids based on mass and to map and monitor the distribution of bio-molecules such as lipids and proteins in cells and tissue samples. My study contains building a combined Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption ionization (MALDI) and Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) imaging house built instrument in order to improve the combination of MALDI and cluster SIMS ion sources on an orthogonal mass spectrometry instrument. My research is mainly focused on applying combined MALDI and SIMS technique to investigate biological compounds including cells in a culture and tissue at the single cell level and lipid domain analysis at the subcellular level which can conclude to better understand the biological role of lipids.
